Itinerary

Day 1: Tbilisi → Tsalka (Dashbashi Canyon) → Vardzia → Khertvisi Fortress → Akhaltsikhe (Rabati Castle)

Tbilisi – Start your trip in Georgia’s buzzing capital. It’s a mix of old charm and modern energy — from the winding streets of the Old Town to the golden dome of Sameba Cathedral. Catch a view over the city at Narikala Fortress and stroll down Rustaveli Avenue, packed with cafés, galleries, and street life.

Tsalka (Dashbashi Canyon) – Head out to this beautiful region known for its mix of cultures and its jaw-dropping canyon. The short 3 km hike leads you to a dramatic waterfall, and you can stop by St. George’s Church, which dates back to the 10th century.

Vardzia Cave Monastery – One of Georgia’s coolest spots. This entire 12th-century cave town is carved into a cliff — with tunnels, stairways, and hidden chapels. The hike takes about 90 minutes, and the views are unreal.

Khertvisi Fortress – A quick stop at one of the oldest fortresses in the country, built all the way back in the 2nd century BC. It’s got major “medieval stronghold” vibes and sits right above the Mtkvari River.

Akhaltsikhe (Rabati Castle) – End the day exploring this massive fortress complex that mixes Georgian, Ottoman, and Armenian styles. You can walk around for about 45 minutes, or take your time and visit the museum — it’s easily a two-hour stop if you do.
