Day 1: Tbilisi → Tsalka (Dashbashi Canyon) → Vardzia → Khertvisi Fortress → Akhaltsikhe (Rabati Castle)

Tbilisi – Start your trip in Georgia’s buzzing capital. It’s a mix of old charm and modern energy — from the winding streets of the Old Town to the golden dome of Sameba Cathedral. Catch a view over the city at Narikala Fortress and stroll down Rustaveli Avenue, packed with cafés, galleries, and street life.

Tsalka (Dashbashi Canyon) – Head out to this beautiful region known for its mix of cultures and its jaw-dropping canyon. The short 3 km hike leads you to a dramatic waterfall, and you can stop by St. George’s Church, which dates back to the 10th century.

Vardzia Cave Monastery – One of Georgia’s coolest spots. This entire 12th-century cave town is carved into a cliff — with tunnels, stairways, and hidden chapels. The hike takes about 90 minutes, and the views are unreal.

Khertvisi Fortress – A quick stop at one of the oldest fortresses in the country, built all the way back in the 2nd century BC. It’s got major “medieval stronghold” vibes and sits right above the Mtkvari River.

Akhaltsikhe (Rabati Castle) – End the day exploring this massive fortress complex that mixes Georgian, Ottoman, and Armenian styles. You can walk around for about 45 minutes, or take your time and visit the museum — it’s easily a two-hour stop if you do.

Zekari Pass (2,182 m) – A historic mountain pass in the Caucasus that links western and eastern Georgia. With its stunning alpine scenery and untouched nature, it’s no wonder this pass has been an important route for travelers and traders for centuries.

Samtsvera Waterfall
– One of the region’s natural gems, this 194-meter-high waterfall is tucked into the forests of Imereti. The crystal-clear waters and peaceful surroundings make it the perfect spot to relax and take in the beauty of the area.

Kutaisi – Georgia’s third-largest city and the ancient capital of the Imereti Kingdom. With over 2,000 years of history, Kutaisi is full of cultural landmarks, lively markets, and warm local vibes. It’s the perfect place to mix city life with nearby natural wonders.

Kinchkha Canyon – Known for one of the country’s tallest waterfalls, this green oasis is perfect for hikers and anyone who loves to be surrounded by untouched nature.

Martvili Canyon – One of Georgia’s most beautiful gorges, with crystal-clear turquoise waters, limestone cliffs, and lush greenery. You can take a boat ride along the river, discover hidden waterfalls, and soak in the peaceful, magical atmosphere.

Enguri Hydroelectric Power Station – One of the largest hydro plants in the Caucasus, this impressive engineering feat sits on the Enguri River and provides electricity to much of western Georgia.

The Tetnuldi Glacier is among the largest in Georgia, attracting mountain lovers and athletes almost year-round. For decades, it has even been a training ground for sports coaches and Olympic champions, adding to the area’s legendary reputation.

Ushguli – Next, we’ll reach Ushguli, one of Europe’s highest and most mysterious villages. Famous for its ancient Svan towers and preserved traditions, Ushguli feels frozen in time. Life here is steeped in customs and warm hospitality. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s a magical spot where nature and culture come together.

Prometheus Cave – One of Georgia’s most famous caves, known for its spectacular rock formations and inner beauty. Walking inside is a magical experience that feels almost otherworldly.

Borjomi – A famous resort town known for its mineral waters and beautiful green surroundings. Borjomi Park, created during the Soviet era, remains a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike to stroll and relax.

Uplistsikhe Cave Town – One of Georgia’s oldest cave settlements, dating back to the 1st millennium BC. This strategic town was an important trading and military hub, and today it offers a fascinating glimpse into Georgia’s ancient past through its archaeological and historical sites.

Ananuri Fortress – Sitting by the Zhinvali Reservoir, this well-preserved feudal fortress is a striking example of Georgian architecture mixed with Gothic elements. Ananuri was a major military and administrative center, and its walls and towers still impress visitors today.

Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) – Known as the king of the mountains, Stepantsminda is framed by snow-capped peaks and lush green meadows. The cliffs and alpine rivers feel alive with history, and the scenery is stunning year-round — colorful wildflowers in summer, a peaceful white blanket in winter. Being here in Kazbegi feels like time slows down, letting you fully take in the beauty of the mountains.

Gveleti Waterfall – Just 7 km north of Stepantsminda, this beautiful waterfall is tucked into the Caucasus Mountains. You can reach it via a scenic 90-minute walk through lush forests and alpine meadows. Rich in local legends and folklore, the waterfall offers a peaceful, almost magical experience — perfect for hikers and nature lovers.

Gergeti Trinity Church – This iconic 14th-century church stands at 2,170 meters above sea level, overlooking the breathtaking Caucasus Mountains. Built during times of political turmoil, it served as a spiritual refuge and symbol of resilience. Its remote location and striking architecture make it a must-see, offering both historical insight and panoramic views that inspire awe.

Truso Valley – A stunning natural gem in the Caucasus, famous for its colorful mineral springs, ancient towers, and alpine landscapes. Walking through the valley, you’ll find old caravan trails, unique rock formations, and peaceful hot springs, all surrounded by wild, untouched nature. It’s a great place to connect with Georgia’s history and natural beauty.

Back in Stepantsminda – After exploring Truso Valley, we’ll return to Stepantsminda for the night.

After breakfast, we’ll set out for a day full of history and spirituality.

Mtskheta – One of Georgia’s oldest cities and its spiritual heart, Mtskheta is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Once the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Iberia, it’s home to historic landmarks like Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Jvari Monastery. These sites are masterpieces of Georgian architecture and stand as symbols of the country’s Christian heritage. Mtskheta continues to be an important pilgrimage destination where history and faith come together beautifully.

Jvari Monastery – This 6th-century Georgian Orthodox monastery sits atop a hill overlooking Mtskheta and the meeting point of the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Jvari is one of Georgia’s oldest religious landmarks and a stunning example of early medieval architecture. The monastery offers breathtaking panoramic views, capturing both the spiritual and natural beauty of the region.

Sighnaghi – Known as the “City of Love,” Sighnaghi charms visitors with its cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and historic city walls. It’s the perfect place to stroll, enjoy local hospitality, and take in breathtaking views of the Caucasus Mountains and the Alazani Valley.

Bodbe Monastery – A peaceful and spiritual site, famous as the burial place of St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia. The monastery is surrounded by beautiful gardens and offers stunning views over the Alazani Valley, where history and nature come together perfectly.

Back in Tbilisi – After exploring Sighnaghi and Bodbe, we’ll return to Tbilisi, where our journey comes to an end. With hearts full of memories and new friendships, we say goodbye at the airport. Safe travels, and we hope to welcome you again soon to the beautiful country of Georgia!
